Event Info

An outdoor community party filled with activities, books, information, and special birthday treats!

Will there be books?

YES. Every child will receive a bag of culturally inclusive, age-appropriate books to take home and keep forever. There will also be a very special edition of The Word Collector by Peter H. Reynolds given to attendees!

What about food?

We are excited to be giving away 800 LocoPops in celebration of our birthday! The first 800 attendees will receive a free pop. Mr. A's Beignets food truck will also be on site. There are many restaurants in the area, as well!

Are masks required?

We recommend unvaccinated individuals wear masks, and highly encourage everyone else to do the same, particularly when they are unable to maintain distance. However, we will be in an outdoor space and will not be requiring masks upon entry.

Is there a contactless option?

Yes! We will be offered a drive-through Grab-and-Go option. Simply drive down Vivian Street in front of DPAC and pick up a bag of books for your little one.

There is free parking in the North Parking Garage at 305 W Pettigrew St, Durham, NC 27701. Enjoy the quick walk through American Tobacco Campus on your way to the event at Diamond View Park!

In case of rain, the event will continue but will be primarily a massive drive-through book event! Guests will drive through to receive their books and birthday treats. We will announce this change in advance.
