Michael Giarla

An expert financial advisor in the public and private sector, Michael Giarla enjoyed a more than 30 year career with Amundi Smith Breeden, LLC, the renowned international investment company, including as its CEO until his retirement in 2015. He is a Founder and Chairman of ConnexMarkets, Inc., a recent fintech startup domiciled in Connecticut.
Currently Mr. Giarla lends his expertise to many organizations in an advisory capacity. He is an advisory board member of New World Advisors (Hingham, MA), and he serves as Charter Trustee and Chairman of the Roxbury Latin School (Boston, MA) Board of Trustees where he also chairs the Investment and Compensation Committees. He is also a board member of the Core Knowledge Foundation (Charlottesville, VA).
In North Carolina, Mr. Giarla serves as a director of the Center for Community Self Help (“Self Help”, Durham, North Carolina) and as a member of the Investment, Audit and Compensation Committees of the Burroughs Wellcome Fund (RTP, North Carolina). Mr. Giarla is a Trustee of the Hill Center (Durham, North Carolina) where he is Treasurer and Chair of the Finance and Investment Committees.
Mr. Giarla holds a Master of Business Administration (1985) with a Concentration in Finance from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Statistics, summa cum laude, from Harvard University (1981), where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and was a Harvard Club of Boston Scholar.
