The Book Bank is Book Harvest's receiving, sorting, and distribution center for all books. It provides ready access to books for children and families by transforming book deserts into book-rich environments and helping children and families build home libraries stocked with books they love.

Working together to create book-rich environments
Through partnerships with health clinics, social service agencies, and other community organizations that serve children and families, we are able to provide books each week to local children! Through free bookshelves in lobbies and waiting areas, book tables at community events, and other mechanisms, we make sure that children and families who are taking advantage of services offered by these partner organizations also have access to free books anytime they visit that partner. Children always get to select their own books, there is no limit to the number of books they can take, and they get to keep them forever.
Book Bank is Book Harvest’s cornerstone program, with 42 locations around the community in partnership with local organizations. (Please note: the majority of our locations aren't currently in operation due to COVID-19). Since 2011, children have selected over 850,000 books through Book Bank!
Outdoor Book Bank Boxes will start popping up around Durham mid-2021. Stay tuned for the launch of this project!
