Thanks to our partnership with the Durham County Library, this year we will be celebrating El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day) for the first time!
Commonly known as Día, the annual national celebration culminates in April, emphasizing the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds. The common goals of all Día programming are to:
Celebrate children and connect them to the world of learning through books, stories and libraries.
Nurture cognitive and literacy development in ways that honor and embrace a child’s home language and culture.
Introduce families to community resources that provide opportunities for learning through multiple literacies.
Recognize and respect culture, heritage and language as powerful tools for strengthening families and communities.
Our local celebration of Día will take place at Northgate Mall on Saturday, April 29, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. All children and families are welcome to join us for a giant book swap/giveaway, music, arts and crafts, magic, fun science, and more! If your children have books they have finished reading, they are welcome to bring them to swap. Every child who comes, with or without books to swap, will be invited to fill a bag with free books of their choosing. We hope you and your family will join us–and please help us spread the word!
