And That’s a Wrap!

Books on Break 2019 wrapped up yesterday, with a grand total of 16,979 students selecting 86,495 books! This program began in Durham at two elementary schools in 2012; this year, 45 schools in five different districts participated. We are so excited to see many of those eager readers over the summer, whether they stop by our office to select more books or join us for the Read-A-Palooza Summer Learning Block Party. And we’re also excited to share the news that we’re piloting a new initiative this summer: a writer’s residency with a group of fifth grade authors who are graduating from Glenn Elementary next week! Follow along on our blog and social media over the summer to keep track of Mrs. Parker’s Professors’ progress toward publishing their second book (they “self-published” their first book, “The Little Fish,” at school this year — see the picture below!)

We hope you enjoy these photo highlights from Books on Break this year. We’re wishing all our Books on Break participants a very happy summer vacation — filled with reading, of course!
