Book Harvest took a journey southeast! You can now find a bookshelf brimming with culturally inclusive children’s books at Jimmy’s Barber & Beauty Salon in Whiteville, NC, a town of just 5,000 people in Columbus County.
Jimmy’s Barber Shop was founded by Mr. Jimmy Clarida in 1992. The bright white storefront stands out with a green awning, sign, and front door; the shop is known for its friendly atmosphere and professional stylists. And because Book Harvest believes that learning happens everywhere, including barber shops, it’s now the home of a brand new bookshelf!
Chnita Godwin, a Book Harvest volunteer (and the mom of a beloved Book Harvest employee), will keep the bookshelf maintained and filled with children’s books from Book Harvest. We are grateful to her and Jimmy for helping Book Harvest promote a culture of literacy and ensure that children and families find books in community spaces.
