Books from Birth Launches in Oregon!
It's official: The United States is bookended by Book Harvest! This week, a few of us journeyed to Astoria, Oregon to launch Books from Birth in partnership with Columbia Memorial Hospital and the Northwest Early Learning Hub.
Through this partnership, hundreds of newborns born in Clatsop County will receive a starter home library of 10 brand-new board books. Families will also receive reading tips, early literacy resources, and an "I am a Book Baby" onesie to celebrate their little one’s arrival!
Books from Birth launched in Durham in 2023 as part of the Book Harvest Early Literacy System of Care. Through partnerships with hospital systems, it lays the foundation for early relational health and optimal brain development in the first five years—a precondition for school readiness, academic success, and a healthy childhood. Research shows that early exposure to books and stories fosters language development and a lifelong love of learning.
By working together with Columbia Memorial Hospital and the Northwest Early Learning Hub, we’re making sure that families in Clatsop County have the tools they need to start their baby's journey from day one. We can’t wait to see the impact Books from Birth will have in this wonderful community. Stay tuned for more updates as the program unfolds!
