Giving Tuesday at a Glance: Collaboration With Duke Chorale
By Jocelyn Reyes, Marketing & Outreach Assistant
On Tuesday, December 3rd, a colleague and I joined the Duke University Chorale at their annual Holiday Concert at the Duke Chapel. To attend the event, the Duke Chorale asked all guests to consider bringing one children’s book as a donation to Book Harvest. As members of the community began flooding into the Chapel, our stack of books at the donation table began to grow! People of all ages brought books or made donations directly to Book Harvest.
It was heartwarming to see families bring books that had been loved by their kids growing up. Some families encouraged their own children to bring their books up to the donation table. The kids seemed a little nervous as they approached the table, but left with a smile on their face after donating their book. There were also community members who brought new books, explaining how the books had been so special to them when they were little.
It was truly a night filled with generosity, nostalgia, and love for both music and books. By the end of the night, we collected over 420 children’s books! This event was a success and we thank Duke University Chorale for having us at their beautiful concert. To those who participated in Giving Tuesday activities with us: thank you for showing up for Book Harvest and children’s literacy.
