June 10, 2021 By Benay Hicks Book Harvest’s partnership with Durham County Library is forged in the mutual goal to get books in the hands of children and families at zero cost. A library’s role in the community is vital. They are community centers and gathering places – vessels of stories, art, and knowledge.
This summer, the Durham County Library is all about fun ways to keep brains active with their Summer of Learning 2021. Beginning on June 14 and wrapping up July 30, individuals of all ages will be able to participate in various activities and prize drawings. Participants – children, teens, and adults – can earn points through Beanstack, which allows users to track reading minutes and activity points online. Alternatively, there are paper trackers available at the library, and children, teens, and adults can print their own. The library is also partnering with Book Harvest to provide free book bundles to participants. When someone signs up, they can visit their local library to pick up their books!
Finally, because fueling the body is as important as fueling the mind, the Summer of Learning program will be providing free meals to anyone ages 18 and under:
Main Library: June 14 – August 6, 12 noon–1 p.m., Mondays through Fridays North Regional Library: June 15 – August 6, 12 noon–1 p.m., Tuesdays through Fridays Bragtown Branch Library: June 15 – July 29, 12 noon–2 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays
We are excited for what the summer is bringing to Durham, and thankful for the Durham County Library’s commitment to learning!
