Mix & Mingle: Parent-to-Parent Network

Updated: Aug 14, 2023

April 27, 2023

Parent voice is extremely important to Book Harvest and we want to ensure we honor the voices of parents in our program planning. Which is why Book Harvest Durham has a new department focusing on school and family engagement! We spent a lot of last year meeting as many of you as possible at community events, schools, laundromats, grocery stores, childcare centers & homes, our summer block party, our Halloween event, and anywhere else that afforded us the opportunity to actively engage with families. We did this to get books into the hands of as many children as possible, as often as possible, while laying the groundwork for our Parent-to-Parent Network.

Our vision is that parents will have the opportunity to lead and be part of how Book Harvest serves children in meeting literacy-related goals. We believe parent voices should be the loudest at the table. We want to hear from caregivers about what services and resources they would like us to provide as we partner with them in supporting Durham children. We see it as an opportunity for Book Harvest and parents to work together and as a chance for parents across Durham to connect, share, and dream.

Mix & Mingle, an exciting new parent networking event series, is currently being offered by Book Harvest Durham’s school & family engagement team. The series kicked off in March and parents learned more about Book Harvest, participated in some lively activities, had dinner (from Boricua Soul!), and began building community with our team. Childcare was provided, and Kreative Kidz NC provided activities for the kiddos in our beautiful Family Space.

Our first event was a fabulous start & there’s still so much to learn about you and as we continue developing new programs!

Join us! We invite you to our next Mix & Mingle on May 2 from 5:30 – 7:30 PM at Book Harvest. Childcare and dinner will be provided! We look forward to getting to know you as we work to build our Parent-to-Parent Network. If you are interested in attending, you can rsvp and learn more here!
