Amy Franks

Senior Director of Family and Community Engagement

In her role as Senior Director of Family and Community Engagement, Amy Franks (she/her) guides our strategy to ensure that a vibrant culture of literacy thrives throughout the Durham community. Working in close partnership with Durham Public Schools, she guides and oversees projects that engage families so that they have the support and services they need to navigate education systems for their children successfully.

With more than 25 years of experience working in school settings as a classroom teacher and as an out-of-school-time educator and leader, Amy is a sought-after presentation and workshop facilitator at national, state, and regional convenings, representing Book Harvest’s work with schools and families. She sits on the Advisory Board for The North Carolina Center for Afterschool Programs, and she is a member of The National Afterschool Association and the International Literacy Association.

Amy received a Bachelor of Arts in English Education from North Carolina Central University. She was selected as a National Institute of Out-of-School Time (NIOST) Afterschool Matters Fellow, and a 2021 Education Policy Fellowship Program fellow with Public School Forum of NC.
