Parker Nelson
Volunteer Coordinator
Start Date: May 2022
As Volunteer Coordinator, Parker Nelson (he/him) plays a vital role in recruiting, training, and managing volunteers for a variety of programs. Parker has a passion for community engagement and thrives in relationship-building, which equips him perfectly to oversee volunteer functions to support our mission. His efforts include everything from book processing, administration, and coordinating initiatives that ensure that all Book Harvest volunteers are trained, well-equipped and appreciated.
A graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill with a degree in Contemporary European Studies and Peace, War, and Defense, Parker has four years of volunteer experience with nonprofits in North Carolina and two years working in a bookstore. Outside of work, he loves learning languages, plant shopping, and spending time with family and friends. He is deeply committed to fostering inclusive spaces for children and believes in the transformative power of books to broaden young minds.
Though he comes across many titles on a daily basis, Parker's favorite children's book of the moment is “The Spider and the Fly” by Mary Howitt, illustrated by Tony Diterlizzi.
