Role at Book Harvest: Rachel leads the strategy and oversees the portfolio of Book Harvest’s book access, book ownership, and community-wide literacy programs, striving to create a culture of literacy throughout Durham by ensuring that there is abundant and equitable access to free and culturally inclusive books for every family wherever families are.

Favorite Children’s Book Right Now: “The Paperboy” by Dav Pilkey

Likes & Loves: Rachel enjoys spending time with her husband and teenaged sons, going on walks with friends, and traveling to California to be with her extended family.

Community Involvement: Steering Committee for Durham’s Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, Learning Happens Everywhere Project Advisory Committee

Where she studied: Bachelor of Arts in English and Sociology from Westmont College and Master of Social Work from the University of Southern California

Experience: 12 years of nonprofit experience, 5 years of experience in education
