Helping Moms Be Moms

May 5, 2022 | By Benay Hicks

Book Harvest believes that parents are superheroes and their child’s first brain builders. To help parents do what they do best, we work remove ALL obstacles to literacy for children in our midst, beginning in the ordinary and informal settings that characterize our neighborhoods and starting with families as soon as their children are born. This includes laundromats, in which we maintain bookshelves filled with free children’s books that are available any time the laundromats are open; children are invited to choose an unlimited number of books from these shelves to take home and keep forever.

Click the video below to hear a story about a mom at one of our laundromat partners, and how Book Harvest inspired a special mother-daughter moment of learning in an everyday space.

And don’t forget: Mother’s Day is this Sunday, May 8! Please consider creating more story time moments like this one by donating to Book Harvest in honor of a mother or mother-figure in your life. We even have a special fillable certificate you can download and give to your loved one to recognize the donation.
